Oregon Wines Fly Free


Thank you to the 300 wineries that have signed on to participate in the 2014-15 "Oregon Wines Fly Free" program, a partnership between the Oregon Wine Board, Alaska Airlines and Travel Oregon.  This program not only encourages out-of-state Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan members to visit tasting rooms by offering free tastings, but it also promotes tasting room sales by waiving the baggage fee on one case of Oregon wine for their domestic return flight home.  Oregon Wines Fly Free is unique among Alaska Airlines' similar programs in other wine regions, as Oregon is the only region with state-wide participation from all airports served by the airline (Medford, Redmond, Eugene and Portland, plus Walla Walla, WA). 

Oregon Wines Fly Free Toolkit

Below, participating wineries can find tips and resources to help promote the program and tasting room sales.  Included in the toolkit are new digital graphics for your social media channels in addition to plug-in ready program-related copy for your consumer marketing efforts.  

The point-of-sale materials, digital assets, ideas and inspiration provided are intended to make it easy for you to amplify your involvement in the Oregon Wines Fly Free program. We encourage you to post with frequency and to get creative. We hope that your involvement with the program, along with the resources provided here and delivered to your tasting room, will help stimulate your sales with out-of-town visitors.

The success of this program depends on all of our active participation - thank you for yours.

The Oregon Wines Fly Free Sweepstakes

Get your out-of-state fans to start thinking about their next trip to Oregon!  Now through November 30, the Oregon Wine Board is running a consumer sweepstakes to give away a pair of round-trip tickets to Oregon on partner Alaska Airlines.  In the links below, wineries and AVA groups can find ideas for using this promotion to create excitement with out-of-state audiences.

Please adhere to these guidelines when communicating about the sweepstakes:

  • Always use conditional language like "enter to win" and "you could win"
  • Be clear that the prize is a flight, not an all-inclusive trip
  • Always include the URL orwinesff.org, which has a link to the entry AND official rules
  • Use the sweepstakes image (link below) with your posts and in your newsletter to make it more eye-appealing
  • Only promote the sweepstakes until November 30

Social Media 

Be proactive and engaging with your social media, but also thoughtful in your frequency and timing of posts.  Let your different channels tell a story and put a "face" to the program.  Be sure to showcase some "behind-the-scenes" work at your winery and always try to engage/involve the case purchaser via their social media.

Utilize Facebook as a means of engaging your audience by prompting a question or idea that encourages them to comment on your post.  Also, utilize it as a means of "thanking" your case purchaser by showcasing them in a post.  Be sure to tag the OWFF partner Facebook accounts in order to broaden your reach.

Utilize your Twitter account for short, punchy messaging.  Think of it as a mini-news feed to your followers.  Twitter is great for "behind-the-scenes" messaging and real-time stories.  Be sure to mention the OWFF partner Twitter accounts in order to increase your exposure.

Utilize your Instagram account for short messaging about OWFF.  Instagram is a terrific platform to showcase both the "face" of the program along with some "behind-the-scenes" action.  Encourage case-purchasers to tag you in their Instagram photos while using the official hashtags posted above.  Be sure to mention the OWFF partner Instagram accounts in order to expand your visibility.

Consumer Communications

Your Website -  Advertise your participation in Oregon Wines Fly Free on your website with the official "Participating Winery" badge which can be found below.  Be sure to link out to the program website and partner website. (Links are provided below)

Your Newsletter - Your newsletter is a useful channel for telling your out-of-state customers about the program.  Encourage them to book their next trip to see you on Alaska Airlines so they can take your wines home for free.  Be sure to include links out to the Alaska Airlines booking site so the consumer can book their trip with one click.  (Links are provided below)
