What is a Flâneur...

A flâneur is, quite simply, a leisurely wanderer, a worldly explorer, a connoisseur of life. The word, hailing from 19th-century France, captures the idea that the mind functions best at a slow pace, and that curiosity can uncover a life of significance. It is, as Charles Baudelaire wrote so eloquently, a life of juxtaposition: alone yet surrounded by bustle, slow yet continuously moving forward. This was the life that Founder, Marty Doerschlag lived between selling his first company and starting Flâneur Wines in 2013. He observed the world, went slowly, traveled without a map, and noticed small details. This carefree time eventually led him to Oregon and some of the finest lands for cultivating grapes. In 2016, Flâneur Wines advanced their winemaking program by adding Grant Coulter as the Winemaker & Director of Vineyards. Prior to joining the team, Grant spent nine years as the award-winning winemaker for Beaux Frères Winery where he developed a large following and crafted the #3 Wine in the World in Wine Spectator's 2016 Top 100.
